Zephaniah reminds us that we are an idolatrous and indifferent people whom God rightfully judges. It’s time to be silent from our excuses, and it’s time to be serious about our sin and need for salvation. There is a price that must be paid for our sin and blood that must be shed. While we should be the ones sacrificed, God instead sacrificed His son. This shows the depth of His love and true character – that God is “in our midst” a mighty one who will save us and sing a victory song over those who repent and love Him.
“The Lord your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over you with gladness; he will quiet you by his love; he will exult over you with loud singing.” (3:17)
