Isaiah’s epic prophecies are the storyline of the Bible in a single book. There are 39 books in the Old Testament: the first 39 chapters focus on the justice and judgment of God. There are 27 books in the New Testament: the last 27 chapters of Isaiah focus on comfort and hope for God’s people. Isaiah points repeatedly to a promised Messiah who will deliver God’s people from not just their enemies without, but the enemy within – their sin.
“We all went astray like sheep; we all have turned to our own way; and the LORD has punished Him for the iniquity of us all.” – Isaiah 53:6
