We have romanticized the occupation of shepherd in our imaginations, but it was the first-century equivalent of TLC’s “Dirty Jobs.”  The reality that lowly shepherds were the first witnesses to the birth of Jesus was a powerful message that the gospel would be for all people (Luke 2:32; 4:18-19).
