Jay Strother · Matthew 28:1-10
The angel at the garden tomb on Easter morning told Mary Magdalene and Mary that, “He is not here! For He has been resurrected, just as He said...” The resurrection is proof that Jesus keeps His word, and that He can be trusted. That’s good news for the non-believers with us on Easter morning who are tired of broken promises and not being able to trust people, government, institutions, etc. The angel told the women, “Come and see the place where He lay,” which is a simple and clear invitation to step out in faith, take Jesus at His word, and respond to the Gospel. This speaks directly to our many guests and visitors on Easter morning. The passage ends as Jesus instructs the women “Do not be afraid. Go and tell My brothers to leave for Galilee, and they will see Me there.” This is a strong next step for Christ-followers to go and tell what we have seen, that we are simply eyewitnesses of new life from Christ.
