Divine Expectation – Part 1

How do you typically respond to rules? Do you look for loopholes? When you do this, are you more concerned about the spirit of the law or what you can get away with? What does it mean that Jesus came “not to destroy but to fulfill” the law? What was he communicating by saying we must “exceed” the righteousness of the Pharisees? How did intensify or amplify the expectations for his followers in this passage? What is most surprising to you or difficult about the expectations Jesus set for His followers in this passage? Think of a time when your personal effort or will power failed you. Based on what Jesus teaches here, what will you do differently next time?
