Courage Under Fire: The Gospel According to Daniel
As our culture shifts from biblical values, we now have to be equipped to hold fast to our faith in a world that is not merely neutral, but openly hostile to our beliefs. In an age of relativism, the book of Daniel models for us hope in a hostile world. Deported to Babylon, Daniel and his companions show us in the darkest and most difficult of circumstances how to stand firm on a high view of the sovereignty of God while at the same time resolving ourselves to live out our faith.
Instead of making Daniel the object of our hero worship or the subject of our end-time debates, our goal is to point our people to Daniel’s own message: God is the hero of the story, the “Most High, sovereign over all the nations of men” (4:25b) and He has not forgotten His people.
“Unlike Athens, Babylon is not interested in trying to out-think us, but merely overpower us. Apologetics and new ways of doing church don’t cut it in Babylon. Only courage under fire will.”
